BRODY HOUSE, STRYPE STREET, E1

Brody House, Strype Street, E1

The flat had been converted out of a former 1950 sequin factory near Liverpool Street. My clients had used it as a pied-a-terre for ten years, and as the impact of a recently completed residential tower had turned out to be much less onerous than they'd feared, they decided to completely remodel it. We reconfigured the space as a one bedroom flat with a large living room and two bathrooms. Dropped ceilings were used to conceal those communal service ducts we were not able to realign. Now that the wine industry has gone screw-top, cork flooring can again be had pretty cheaply, and engineered cork floor has been used throughout the flat. Our client is a composer, and the slide-out keyboard was fitted so as not to dominate the bedroom should the muse strike him.
