Our client was a very energetic Sri Lankan girl with about five university degrees, and a passion for yoga. The flat had not had work done on it for more than 30 years.
We retained the basic disposition of the rooms, but knocked the two front rooms together and provided quite a serious study. We put back the cornices and the four paneled doors, and fitted a fireplace. We also reinforced some of the internal partitions so as to support yogic exercises which required devotees to hang upside down from walls on ropes.
Despite the reservations of the freeholder we were able to fit a long strip hardwood floor throughout the whole flat, with enough soundproofing so as not to alarm the occupants of the flat below.
Although the space available was seriously narrow, we were able to partly recess a basin into an obsolete flue, so this wet-room works remarkably well.
